2015 saw one of the biggest spikes in commercial vehicle sales to have ever been recorded. According to figures that were released from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) the commercial vehicle market has been on the rise since 2012, but now the numbers of vehicles sold has overtaken pre-recession levels with nearly half a million vehicles registered last year.
Growth in Van Sales
A large proportion of this number was created by vans, which utilised online shopping and attractive finance deals to achieve record levels of sales. In fact, the number of new van registrations shot up by over 15% in 2015 alone. That’s a huge increase in a single year, but it pales in comparison to the 25.5% increase in trucks that was seen in 2015.
This is great news for the entire commercial vehicle industry - and also the economy - showing an impressive rise following from 2014. Many experts use the demand for commercial vehicles as an indicator to the UK’s economy and market growth, which means that these figures are even more encouraging than they may initially appear.
While increased sales are going to be highly sought after in 2016, the likelihood is that the market will level off this year creating a much more stable marketplace. This is not to say that demand will reduce, but rather that it will maintain a constant high which should provide the commercial market with another record-breaking year.
