Over half a million pounds’ worth of vans were stolen and recovered last year, and Ford Transits accounted for more than half of these.
How Many Vans Were Stolen in 2016?
Stolen vehicle recovery expert, Tracker, is encouraging drivers to ramp up their security after 5,500 Transits were stolen last year, up on the 4,000 in 2015. The average value of each stolen and recovered van was just under £15,500 excluding VAT and 44% were taken when thieves took the keys.
Of course, this high proportion of Ford vans is partially due to the company’s domination of the market. In 2016, more Ford Transit Customs were bought in the UK than any other van and it appears this year is on track to see the same results. So far, 21,751 have been sold, more than double the number of the nearest competitor.
