The latest recorded figures reveal that there are now more vans being driven on UK roads than ever before.
An Increase of Commercial Vehicles
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there is now a record-breaking number of vans on our roads. At more than 4million, the vehicle count is up 4.3% on last year, with 2016’s first quarter registrations also up 1.2%.
It is reported that this equates to around 45billion miles being driven in the UK each year and 3,000 tonnes of goods being transported on UK roads every minute.
Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said:
“Commercial vehicles have never been more important to the British economy, transporting vital goods and services using the latest low emission technology.”
A Changing Motor Manufacturing Market
The same research also reveals that the number of UK vans fitted with DAB digital radios as standard has increased by 130% in the last 12 months. 36.5% of all new vans in the UK are now fitted with digital radios as standard, more than a 14% increase from the same time last year.
